Hi,
I converted a physical machine to a vm a couple of weeks ago. I'm using ESXi 5.1. The conversion went very smooth and was completely successful. The physical machine had an external USB 2.0 drive hooked up to it for backups.
I moved this drive to the VM server, added a USB controller to my VM and the drive shows up just like before and backups are working just like before except for speed. Before the conversion the backups with verification would take 6 hours. The same data now takes 19 hours every day. I have tried resetting services, rebooting etc, but the speed never changes.
The VM server actually has a much faster disk subsystem than the old physical server, so I'm a bit lost. Does the USB slow down because it is going through layers it didn't previoulsy have to go through? Doesn't make any sense to me.
Any ideas? Thank you.
