Hi,
I had great expectations when I saw the Fusion 5 announcement, where VMware claimed that speed has been dramatically improved, including faster 3D graphics.
My experience is that my VM, which was really fast on Fusion 4 has lost a lot of power when moving to Fusion 5 :-(
My configuration:
MacBook Pro Core i7 2.3 GHz (April 2011 - thunderbolt)
16 Go RAM DDR3 1333 MHz
SSD Crucial M4 512 Gb
Mac OSX 10.6.8
My setting for the VM:
4 core
8 Go RAM
Windows 7 64 bits
I attached to this topic 2 Windows benches from the VM, one under Fusion 4, and one under Fusion 5 (same VM, same setting).
(sorry, the screenshots are in French, but I'm sure that they are easy to understand/compare to the English ones)
Everything, except memory test, has lost 1.5 to 2.5 points !!
This is exactly the opposite of what I was hoping (especially with the video card capabilities, this part being the weakest of the configuration)
I can tell that the VM is now quite slow and not very responsive, nothing comparable to what I had before.
I don't know exactly from where it comes because right after the launch of the VM in Fusion 5, the new VMwareTools isarealso installed.
Is it Fusion by itself? Is there a problem with the VMware tools?
I tried to change many settings, memory, number of cores, VM compatibility, nothing gave any good result.
I restored back my old VM and Fusion 4 from my clone and the performance was back again.
I did again the update and measured (Windows bench) again, same result.
Finally, I restored my old version, everything is back on tracks, and I will keep it like this for the moment.
I will pass on this version so far and wait until VMware improves this version...
So you have been warned, be careful before you upgrade your current VM!
Very, very, very, disappointing :-(
Thanks for reading, any tip to solve this issue is of course welcome ;-)
