I am running VMware Workstation 9.0 on Win7 Pro. I used VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to recover a backup disk image from a computer that finally failed on me. The client is WinXP, but I have observed the following problems in earlier versions of VMware workstation with other clients.
From the host or the client side, it seems as though I can READ files from the other side reliably. At least I don't have an example of this failing yet.
BUT when I try to write files from the WinXP VM client to the underlying Win7 host, I get all sorts of errors. It simply fails. In fact, I then can't even access the shared file structure on Win7 using Windows Explorer from within the WinXP VM client. I haven't tried writing from the Win7 host to the WinXP VM client, so don't know if that also fails.
This is even worse. Not only do I have to shut down the WinXP VM and then exit from VMware Workstation, I have to REBOOT Win7 and start all over. Trying to go back into VMware Workstation, powering on WinXP, & then trying to access Win7 files from WinXP simply fails, saying that I don't have access.
SURELY there is a solution to this problem! Why doesn't it work out of the box? What do I have to do to resolve these issues. Now that I need to use this configuration on a daily basis, this has become a huge problem.
