1000v ESXi Management vmk does not show as connected

I've got the 1000v 4.2.1.SV1.5.2 running with vSphere 5.1. I've successfully added a host to the 1000v, and can manage it both through vCenter and standalone. However, the client does not show it as being connected (white icon instead of green). I've attached a ascreenshot which also shows a VM interface for the VSM successfully connected and with a green icon. Wondering if this is merely a cosmetic isssue?
