Question on timestamps in the datastore...

I had a quick question on the "Last Modified" column located in the datastore; In the example of viewing the datastore, then you see your VM folder, and inside contains all of the files (vmx/ram/vmdk/etc.).

I am currently trying to archive/delete VMs that are not being used or haven't been used in a while, off our datastore.  Is there a better way to judge a "last time used" for the VMS?

I have been doing it by look in events, looking at event viewer within the Guest OS, and looking at the "last modified" column within the datastore.  What exactly does the "last modified" column mean to VMware?  I noticed that for example, some of the VMDKs read "xxx 2010", as where the VMX might read "xxx 05/10/2012".  So it had me kind of confused.

Thanks for any clarification, and also any recommendations for a better way to perform this task in the future.
