Obviously, running the shutdown commands inside the VM did not work, nor the Fusion menu item "shut down" under "Virtual Machine". There is a problem or I would not be here.
It is a Linux VM and I started the shut down with a "shutdown now" command and the VM went through all the normal shutdown "init 0" scripts, but it did not actually do a virtual power off. After ten minutes or so, I used the menu item under "Virtual Machine" and the window said, "power down" (or "off", I forget). But Fusion still thinks the machine is powered up and refuses to allow me to shut down the Mac itself. I can directly shoot the Fusion process, but it leaves behind a broken VM that then becomes a big nuisance to deal with. I see complaints of this sort stretching back 5 (*FIVE*?!?!) years, so I hope some effective workarounds have been developed. Does someone know just one solution? Thank you!
